Casa Allegra Community Services supports 12 individuals with developmental disabilities in one of two long-term care settings in San Rafael licensed by the Dept. of Health Services and funded through Medi-Cal. Many of the individuals have called the Terra Linda and Santa Venetia residences their home for over thirty years. It is our belief that each person is entitled to live his or her life with the full dignity of a developing human being as a self reliant and productive member of society. Our primary purpose is the provision of services that center around each individual's unique needs and which allow the person to live, go to school, or work in environments and with a lifestyle that is typical for all people regardless of the severity of the disability.
- We offer person centered planning
- We offer individualized support
- We offer recreational activities in the community
- We offer support to the individual's families and friends
Families have said this about CACS Residential Living:
- Michael's mom, Louise said, "I thank God every day for Casa Allegra Community Services."
- A direct support professional, Claudia, said, of the six adults living in one of our residential homes that they "enjoy having their housemates around them; they are involved in the community and a part of society; and they feel important and loved."
- Cary's sister, Elia said,
"My sister Carol Lynn (Cary) was birth injured and severely disabled. She lived all her life with her devoted family until 2003 when the last of our family died and I brought her to live with me...I gave Cary a good life...but it was a difficult balancing act and I lived in worry all the time because if anything happened to me threre was no one who would know her or step in to watch over her or care for her...I had researched the local care homes and the one organization that impressed me was Casa Allegra...a call came that Casa Allegra had a rare opening...Casa Allegra is a miracle...I see Cary surrounded by warm and loving people...and music and activity. Cary had retreated into herself over the years and intereacted less. But when I bring her back...I watch her carefully and I see her sense of security and happiness being there.
Chris Bonfiglio is a visionary and has drawn an extraordinary caliber of people around her. The organization treats the staff as family and the staff in turn give real kindness and sincere caring to the residents...This is a powerful point of integrity, when someone comes under the sheltering wing of Casa Allegra, they belong. If the person's health or situation is problematic the organization's people stand by them and find a way to make things better. The other family members that I have met have endless words of praise for Casa Allegra. It brings tears to my eyes to write how much it means that besides just me, Cary has a loving net of people around her. All of these people touch my heart with their humanity and integrity. In this contemporary world that seems so meanspirited at times, it is a statement of the richness of the human spirit to find such good people giving their best to these dear, severly disabled people who must depend on others for all their protection and well-being.
I have the greatest gratitude and admiration for Chris and all the Casa Allegra staff."
